Dan graduated from Irondale High School with Highest Honors as a National Merit Scholar. While at Irondale, Dan was involved in drama, orchestra, and speech. He is currently attending Harvard University (yeah, that Harvard), majoring in Visual and Environmental Studies (focusing on Film, Animation, and Video Production), with a minor in English and American Literature and Language. Degree expected Spring 2010.
“I previously worked at French Meadow’s scone booth at the Minnesota State Fair, where I mysteriously summoned scones from the aether (editor’s note - that’s not a typo, this guy’s from Harvard), and exchanged them for tender. I also sold coffee. Occasionally tea.”
Dan can call to bear a substantial amount of illustration and cartooning experience, knowledge of Photoshop and InDesign, and some web development skills (namely HTML, CSS, and PHP, and a bit of Flash). He also has experience in video and animation production using FinalCut Pro and AfterEffects.
Going from the North Suburban Conference to the Ivy League. Go Crimson!
Dan cites Sour Patch Kids and Rolos as his favorite treats at RMG.
In his free time, Dan likes watching movies, writing/listening to/recording music, reading, drawing, exploratory bicycling, adventuring—those sorts of things.
“I can crabwalk alarmingly fast. This has really scared people before.”
Dan currently serves as the art director of the Harvard Lampoon, the world’s oldest continually published humor magazine, where his comics and illustrations can be seen regularly. As a consequence of having this position, he has appeared in a gorilla suit alongside Paris Hilton for the cover of this year’s National Geographic parody, and has seen Art Garfunkel get much more belligerent than he would’ve imagined possible.
“My first animated short film, “Fever Dreams,” was selected for exhibition at Cambridge’s Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts. I also record my own music, and had a brief stint at Harvard’s radio station (WHRB 95.3) as a studio engineer.”
